CODE OF CONDUCT
The Motor Industry Ombudsman is funded by motor manufacturers and importers. The website states that they have no say in the running of the institution.
Arbitration proceedings are held where the parties are unable to come to an agreement.
The parties are contractually bound to accept the Ombudsman's decision but there is an appeal process.
COST TO CONSUMER
No cost unless a technical inspection is required.
The Ombudsman received 10 742 complaints in 2006; 3095 were resolved immediately and most of the rest were resolved by agreement. The Ombudsman had to adjudicate in 162 cases. Most complaints related to poor service (12,7%) and engine problems (11,9%).
