Soccer fans all over the world can now connect during the 2010 World Cup using CNN and Foursquare.
A location based social network called Foursquare has teamed up with CNN to allow users to update fellow soccer fans of their whereabouts and what they are experiencing in and around their location. This initiative will play out in all the 32 countries participating in the World Cup.
This collaboration kicked off last Friday, enabling World Cups fans that follow CNN on
foursquare.com/cnn to retrieve unique CNN badges when checking in from over 100 locations. In order to retrieve these badges, fans have to check in at least three times at any of the CNN-tagged locations.
South African fans using Foursquare can check in from the World Cup Stadiums in the various host cities and from a number of other landmarks such as the
Museum of South African Rock Art to receive the South Africa Explorer badge. Fans from the remaining 31 competing countries can check in from viewing venues in order to receive the Super Fan Badge.
