We all moan and groan about the load shedding in South Africa, but the reality is, it’s here to stay. What we need to do now is to focus on adopting new habits and appreciate how innovative South Africans can be when faced with adversity. The tip below, and those to follow in the weeks to come, will not only drastically reduce your electricity bill and help to alleviate the country’s power situation, but is also a way to do your bit to protect the environment.
Tip 1: Unplug all appliances when not in use!
Almost all of us are guilty of this misnomer! But it really can make a difference if you remember to unplug appliances when you’re not using them. According to the energy crisis website, 15% of your electricity is wasted on those little red lights indicating that the appliance, or plug, or TV set, or charger is on standby mode.
From a safety perspective, unplugging items such as cell phone chargers will also prevent a fire from breaking out at the plug point in the event of a power surge.
We have many tips up our sleeve, but if you know of a handy one you would like to share, feel free to comment below and we will include them in our upcoming posts.
