Bev has been instrumental in getting the getclosure! blog up and running. When I started working for getclosure! in March 2008 I had absolutely no blogging experience and am extremely grateful to Bev for introducing me to the online social media world and to some amazing people who have also been really supportive and helpful in the early stages of our blog.
How long have you been part of the MANGO-OMC team and what role do you play?
I think they call me a social media strategist or online PR…
Since February this year, I have been working with, what I consider, one of the best online PR agencies. My main focus is that of servicing an international lottery ticket purchasing service (the Computicket for European based lotteries).
What other work do you do?
I have a promotional agency in the Garden Route and I also freelance in Cape Town. I love consulting and strategizing in meaningful ways. For me, ad hoc work essentially allows you to collaborate on mind-blowing projects, get the job done and move on to the next dazzling project.
What do you do for getclosure!?
I dish out opinion – strategies, thoughts, tips and some guidance.
Tell us a bit about each of your personal blogs.
www.feistyfemale.com is my personal site. Despite the fact that it is a “personal” blog, I like my privacy and keep most of my personal life off my blog. I add titbits to create magic and to fairly represent who I am and what I am like offline. This is the space where I can voice my thoughts, beliefs and opinions on anything that catches my fancy. It seems my “scattered thoughts” and quirkiness appeal to some readers.
www.beverleymerriman.com is my professional playground. I try and write bite-size posts that are of interest to small businesses, entrepreneurs, social media junkies and those beings that are passionate about promotions.
All my blogs have the signature colour cerise, white and black. I think it’s a good reflection of my playful personality and I appreciate consistency in design.
www.thoughtleader.co.za/oncue This is where I stir up trouble and wild debate. The posts I post on thought leader are the social issues I mull over in my head a trillion times before putting pen to paper.
What do you enjoy most about being in this industry?
As I work in two separate industries:
Social Media – I love working with brilliant, open-minded business wizards and magical media folk. I’m constantly astounded by the number of creative, witty innovative unique minds in the industry. They are a huge source of inspiration.
Promotions Industry – I enjoy the mixture of conjuring up creative promotional campaigns and working with a diverse promotions team.
What are your 5 favourite blogs?
I think there are very few blogs I don’t touch on in a month! Apart from the getclosure! blog I enjoy reading:
- SA Rocks as I am passionate about South Africa.
- Wine Country as I think it’s both educational and entertaining. (I really love wine)
- Mobile Marketing SA & Mia Solutions is a regular read because it’s where marketing meets humour.
- Mike Stopforth for covering all the topics I am interested in and passionate about.
- Melissa Attree for having the most useful links posted to her blog!
What has been the highlight of your working life so far?
Starting my third company, Ripple Promotions, in 2005 at the age of 22. I simply love starting small businesses! I thrive on the excitement, stress, passion, and fun small businesses bring into your life. It’s fast paced, exciting and a satisfying experience.
What do you do when you’re not working?
I move or create! I really enjoy spending time in the swimming pool (it’s quiet). Alternatively you will find me working out, running, walking, body-boarding, or on the dance floor! Quieter times are spent painting, writing and reading unhealthy amounts of literature. Recently I also discovered the gourmet chef in me…
