When faced with work pressure it is unlikely that the first thing which comes to mind is helping the customer with a smile and making sure that the customer is satisfied.
In clothing retail stores, banks and food stores when the queues are long, customers become impatient and the employees can feel the pressure of making sure that the queue keeps moving and the customers are satisfied when they leave the store.
Government institutions are another good example of when the necessity to be able to work under pressure and still deliver good service is key. When I went to home affairs the other day the room was packed with people, the queues were long and the staff were very helpful, ensuring that the people didn’t become impatient.
There was a security guard who directed people to the right queues, which meant that people didn’t stand in the wrong queue just to get to the front and be told “sorry wrong queue”!
It’s important to ensure that you do what ever it takes to make your job easy which equals less pressure. I think working under pressure comes with any job description; you just need to learn to handle it and assist the customer appropriately.
