Politics in the USA will never be the same again after Barack Obama’s brilliant campaign.  Using the “Yes we can!” mantra, he managed to persuade his electorate that change is needed in the USA, and that change is possible.  Can it really be doubted that – not just in the USA, but also across the globe – there is a yearning for change and a willingness to embrace new ways of doing things?

Obama’s charisma and spell-binding oratory were huge contributors to his success, of course. But no one should underestimate the significance of the way in which his team made use of the internet.  With clever and innovative online campaigns, they raised an enormous amount of money via small donations, they galvanised young and previously apathetic citizens to register as voters, and then they coordinated the efforts of thousands of Obama volunteers as they mobilised people to vote.

This new-age campaign has profound implications for everyone in the business of trying to change the way that we do things, not just in politics but in every field where success depends on being able to influence the way that people think and behave.
