Everyone planning their December holiday road trip might be in for a spot of good news next week. All signs seem to indicate that the South African government will be lowering fuel prices again on 3 December.
According to today’s Business Report, a “hefty relief” in price is expected. No figures have been mentioned yet, but so far this year the petrol price has decreased from R10.70 in July, to R8.96 in November.
An announcement from the Department of Minerals and Energy is expected on Friday, 28 November. And earlier in the month, I-Net Bridge suggested the cut could be around R1.20.
Fortunately, despite the weakened Rand, the global price of oil means that a price cut is still possible. Oil dropped to $50 a barrel last week from $147 per barrel in July.
This is good news for motorists, and especially holiday makers. You’ll have a few Rands left over for a nice meal out and a bottle of wine once you get to your destination.
