June is blood donor month, so we are encouraging you to donate blood if you haven’t done so already – it could save someone’s life.
Donating blood is a simple procedure, and as long as you are in good health, your blood could be used to help patients undergoing surgery, accident victims and patients with cancer or anaemia. According to the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) website, you need to be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50kg and live a relatively healthy lifestyle in order to be eligible for blood donation.
If you would like to donate blood, during this month or at any time of the year, you can visit the SANBS website to search for a mobile or fixed donor blood clinic, or if you live in the Western Province you can visit the Western Province Blood Transfusion site to find a clinic in your area.
