In November last year we told you that digital TV would be arriving in South Africa by the end of 2011. There have been a few recent developments to this story.

For one, The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has now finalised the draft regulations for South African digital TV. They have allocated dividends of digital TV to SABC, etv and M-Net, which should provide us with some new channels to choose from.

However, due to some technical challenges in implementing the switch-over to digital TV, ICASA has also requested that digital TV’s arrival date be reviewed. We might not see the complete changeover to digital TV possibly until 2013. Although this may seem like a long time, we can hope that the implementation will go forth without a glitch!
