For those of you who drive to work, I’m sure that you’re aware of the fact that there more cars travelling on the road nowadays, which means that there may be an increased possibility of being involved in a car accident of some sort. It is important to know that if this unfortunate event does occur, there are things that you can do to ease the process for the paramedics, police and your family.

A writer for the Road Safety blog, in association with Arrive Alive, says that a lot of the time accident victims are rescued by strangers, and this could pose a problem when it comes to identification and notifying the person’s family. A way to overcome this obstacle is to carry your in-case-of-emergency information around with you at all times. Arrive Alive suggests using something called the Lifecap, which is an emergency information capsule which you can attach to your key-ring. The enclosed sheet of information will look like this:

In conjunction with the Lifecap, you can make use of the ICE method. ICE stands for In Case of Emergency, and is a cell phone-based method used to make contact with your family if you are ever in an accident. The idea is to save your emergency contact numbers in your cell phone under the name “ICE”. You may choose to save more than one number, in which case you would name them according to the order in which you would like your rescuer to use. For example, your number one contact person’s number would be saved as ICE 1, your second contact person ICE 2, and so forth. It will really help the people involved in your rescue to identify you and let your family know straight away that you have been involved in an accident.
