Guest post by the Rocking the Daisies team.

As South Africa’s premier eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival, Rocking the Daisies (RTD) collaborates with reputable green partners every year, incorporating innovative, environmentally conscious initiatives into the festival and spreading the message of ‘play hard, tread lightly’.

Says Brian Little, Festival Director: “Our mission is to not only educate our community on living greener lifestyles, but to show them how to do it too”.

One of the biggest ways to reduce your carbon footprint is to think ‘green’ about your mode of transport. RTD has therefore come up with green options to get to this year’s festival – slated for 9-11 October 2009 in Darling – such as catching a shuttle bus from Cape Town or car pooling with your friends. For the brave at heart, there are initiatives where people can cycle and even walk to the festival to do their bit for the environment. Plus there are ticket discounts available for those making a green effort.

Going green and considering our modes of transport is something that can easily be applied to our everyday lives. We simply need to adjust our thought processes and think twice before we jump in the car to buy a loaf of bread from the shop just down the road. There are a myriad of great reasons why we should walk or cycle instead, plus our bodies will thank us for the exercise and fresh air.

Rocking the Daisies, South Africa’s first carbon-neutral music festival, achieved carbon-neutral status for the first time and this year will do the same thanks to the use of environmentally friendly practices and products. The festival’s motto is: play hard, tread lightly.
