Living in a retirement village. Next door neighbours are smokers and is really affecting us. How can we solve this problem.

The houses are very close – in fact some of the outside walls are touching.

Hi Henry, that is an interesting point. Is there not a clause in the legislation that deals with cases such as the examples that you have given?

as a owner of an entertainment venue i am liable to pay a fine of up to R50 000 if a smoker lights up a cigarette in my premises while the smoker could be fined up to R500. has anybody noticed how easy the owner could be framed. be it a grudge,unhappy patron or even opposition. why make the owner so vulnerable?

I am not against the laws, my worry is they carry on about smoking but what about the drunk, alcoholic that drives and kill 10 people at one stage or husband / wife drinking hit the kids or assault each other. For me that is must worst than 1 cigarette. Government must start focusing on the crime, alcohol and murders that need attention and stop watching the smokers. By the way I am not a smoker
