Identity fraud is becoming more common than you think. A recent study in the UK, run by Yougov, estimated that one in eight adults have been the victims of identity fraud. As awful as these statistics are, there are local measures set in place to prevent consumers from becoming victims of ID fraud.
Wendy Knowler writes on IOL News that if feel you have been a victim of ID fraud you should register your details with the SA Fraud Prevention Service’s database immediately. Should someone use your name to open an account, banks and retail outlets will be alerted.
To register with the SA Fraud Prevention Service, call 0860 101 248 or 011 869 6460.
