The Presidency hotline has been up and running now for just over two weeks. The aim of the hotline is to let disgruntled citizens call the President’s office on a toll-free number (17737) and lodge their queries or complaints about government inefficiency.
According to an article on The Mail and Guardian Online, the hotline received more than 17 388 calls on its first day. Jacob Zuma himself even answered the first couple of calls.
However, there appear to have been some glitches with the launch of the hotline. This is mainly due to the large number of calls being received each day, which makes it virtually impossible for callers to get through. Each call is said to last approximately 20 minutes, which could also account for the jamming of calls.
