Good news for South African cell phone users – The Department of Communications has called for interconnect fees to drop by 30c. This means that each time someone wants to make a call to another network (e.g. from Vodacom to MTN) the networks will only pay each other R0,95 to switch calls, compared to R1,25 which is what it used to be.
This should hopefully all take place by the end of November this year, although Eyewitness News reports that the negotiation process with the network providers is quite a complicated one.
