08000-RESCUE is a 24 hour toll-free helpline for human trafficking victims and a platform for consumers to give tip-off information. This joint initiative between The Salvation Army and BE HEARD, an organization with ten years experience in operating anonymous tip-off services, was launched in Johannesburg on 27 January 2010.

Initially the helpline operators will be able to field calls in eight of South Africa’s official languages, and hope to expand their capacity to field calls in a number of other languages before the start of the FIFA World Cup in June. The service will also be available online and via sms in the future.
