Cell C is taking mobile technology one step further with their latest innovation called PhotoCode. This application will make it possible for Cell C customers to get exclusive content delivered straight to their phone, simply by taking a photograph of a PhotoCode with their cell phone, whether it’s in print or on-screen. Cell C CEO Lars Reichelt says: “All customers have to do is download the PhotoCode reader, then point and snap”
Reichelt explains that Photocode “enables inanimate matter to come alive, for example, a newspaper can provide access to a video clip… a t-shirt can carry an electronic business card and a billboard can provide access to a concert or provide a link to a website.” he says.
This new spin on Quick Response (QR) technology (two dimensional bar codes) is powered by BeeTagg Pro and will be introduced to the public by Cell C and their media partners: You, Huisgenooit, People, Multichoice, The Times, 5 FM and Oppikopi.
To get the PhotoCode reader simply SMS your name to 32357. You will then receive a response with the download link. Cell C customers can request the link for free, Vodacom and MTN customers will be charged R1 for the SMS. Once you have downloaded the link, you will be charged applicable data costs to download content from the PhotoCodes.
