President Zuma is planning to adopt a ‘hands-on’ approach to improve government performance and speed up service delivery. In November 2010 he will embark on a trip to visit a range of government facilities across the country: “We will visit the best and the worst hospitals, police stations, home affairs offices, social grant pay points and others,” Zuma told reporters following the ANC’s national general council (NGC) held in Durban.
The primary motivating factor for this initiative, in Zuma’s words, is: “We promised the branches of the ANC at the NGC that there will be faster service delivery. We also promise the South African people that they will see change. We cannot fail our people who entrusted their faith in the ANC and returned it to office with such an overwhelming majority.”
To kick start this initiative, Zuma is meeting a task team representing directors general from national and provincial departments next month to discuss how to implement this national action plan.
Do you think it will be successful?
