The virtual world and the real world have always been quite distinctive but are now merging. Whilst you might tweet messages to your friends or share photos of nights out on Facebook, there has always been some separation between reality and your online persona. Now there is an easy way to link the two. It’s called Bump, and is currently running its Beta test phase.
.
The easiest way to link these two worlds is by using the licence plate of your vehicle. Bump allows you to customise your licence plate by having your social media name, for example your twitter profile name or Facebook name, as your licence plate number.
.
This new bond between the real and virtual world will bring both pros and cons.
Having your twitter name on your licence plate will allow people to inform you if you have left your lights on or if you are parked somewhere you shouldn’t be. It will also allow you to report traffic offences by following the twitter name to find out who the driver is. On a lighter note, you could also tweet the person in the car next to you if they happen to be a Johnny Depp look alike!
.
There are however a couple of drawbacks to having your pseudonym on your licence plate, such as unwanted stalking or spam.
.
This seamless link between the virtual world and the real world could be great, but just make sure that you protect your information and do not display anything that you don’t want the world to see.
Would you sign up to Bump if it was available in South Africa? Let us know.
